Opening Day: the Most Important Tournament in Russia’s History

Today, 14 June, Russia–Saudi Arabia match at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow launches the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The 2018 World Cup will be the 21st in the history of the Championship and Russia’s first, spanning 11 cities and 12 stadiums (Luzhniki and Otkrytie Arena will both host matches in Moscow) – from Kaliningrad in the west to Yekaterinburg in the east, from St. Petersburg in the north to Sochi in the south. The other host cities are Nizhny Novgorod, Volgograd, Samara, Kazan, Saransk and Rostov-on-Don.

Nearly RUB 360 bn have been allocated to construct stadiums and improve the infrastructure for the World Cup, and all the facilities were put into operation ahead of the deadline.

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, heads and representatives of other states will attend the opening ceremony.

Famous American actor and hip-hop artist Will Smith and Nicky Jam, Albanian singer Era Istrefi, and American musician Diplo will perform the official song of the 2018 World Cup.

Famous British singer Robbie Williams will also give a concert at the opening ceremony, performing with Russian opera singer Aida Garifullina. Star Brazilian soccer player Ronaldo will also attend the concert.

The World Cup’s mascot, Zabivaka the Wolf, will naturally be one of the principal figures at the opening ceremony and throughout the event.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup Russiaтм will be held between 14 June and 15 July 2018. Proxy Centre is in charge of transport services for the World Cup’s client groups and related events in three territorial clusters out of four: Western, Central, and Southern. The company is also organizing the work of transport and information desks and transport areas for the tournament’s participants in all 11 host cities, ensuring prompt resolution of logistics issues, and handling arrival and departure services for high-ranking guests.

Previously, Proxy Centre already took part in preparing and holding World Cup related events, such as the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup held in Russia in June–July 2017, and the World Cup Final Draw held on 1 December 2017 at the State Kremlin Palace in Moscow.

The Company also provided transport services during a seminar in Sochi for teams playing in the World Cup and during inspection visits by FIFA representatives’ to the host cities.
