On 16 November, a gala concert celebrating Oleg Vinogradov’s 80th anniversary and 60 years in ballet will be held at the Oktyabrsky Grand Concert Hall. The concert will feature principals from the Bolshoi and Mariinsky Theatres, the Novosibirsk Theatre and world ballet stars from Spain, Germany, the US, France and South Korea.
The gala will celebrate the unique and diverse body of work of Oleg Vinogradov, People’s Artist of the USSR, academician, highly decorated performer, winner of the State Award of Russia and eight international awards, including two awards from the Académie de la Danse de Paris, Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters (France), the Lawrence Olivier award, the Lumières Award (presented by the French film industry), the Picasso Award, Positano Premia la Danza - Léonide Massine award, and the 2017 UNESCO Award.
The Gala Concert is sponsored by the Cultural Committee of St. Petersburg and the International Dance Council (CID), a UNESCO partner, in St Petersburg, with the participation of Stars of the 21st Century (Canada).
Vinogradov’s work priorities, style and principles as a leader, choreographer, performer, stage designer and pedagogue are determined not only by his professional education, but by his work in many countries (France, Great Britain, Italy, Hungary, Japan, South Korea, Poland, the US and many others).
Particular note should be made of his achievements in overcoming the confrontation between Soviet and western art in the Iron Curtain era. It was Vinogradov who made it possible to invite to Russia world-famous choreographers and dancers, including such masters as A. Bournonville, P. Lacotte, R. Petit, A. Dolin, A. Tudor, G. Balanchine, M. Béjart, J. Robbins and A. Fodor.
60 years of Oleg Vinogradov’s work (including that on preserving and developing the traditions of Russian classical ballet that influenced the art of dance abroad) will be presented in the art of his students, colleagues, dancers and choreographers from theatres in Russia and abroad.
The programme will feature both traditionally choreographed pieces and modern performances based on the classical ballet school, as well as fragments from ballets choreographed by Vinogradov himself.
The gala will feature stars from the world’s top theatres: Yuliia Stepanova, Denis Rodkin, Olga Smirnova and Semyon Chudin, Maria Aleksandrova and Vladislav Lantratov (Bolshoi Theatre); Yulia Makhalina, Farukh Ruzimatov, Anton Korsakov, Igor Kolb and Alisa Petrenko, Kristina Shapran and Timur Askerov, Aleksandra Iosifidi, Nadezhda Batoeva and Ernest Latypov (Mariinsky Theatre); Anastasia Matvienko and Denis Matvienko (NOVAT, Novosibirsk); Lucia Lacarra (Spain) and Marlon Dino (Germany); Adrian Blake Mitchell (US), Oscar Hawkins (US), Hye Min Hwang and JaeYong Ohm (South Korea), students of the Vaganova Ballet Academy and the Kirov Academy of Ballet (Washington DC) and many others.
The gala concert will be preceded by an exhibition of works by students of the St Petersburg Ioganson State Academic Arts Lyceum at the Russian Academy of Arts. The Oktyabrsky Grand Concert Hall will present the best works created by Lyceum students for the “Viva Ballet!” project. The exhibition dedicated to Oleg Vinogradov’s anniversary will run from 16 October to 16 November.
