Moscow. 5 October. ECOTECH International Expo and Forum, the culminating event of the Year of Ecology in Russia, will be held on 12–14 December 2017 at the Crocus EXPO International Exhibition Centre in Moscow.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation is the organizer of ECOTECH’17. The International Expo and Forum is held pursuant to the order of Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev. Russian Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Sergei Donskoy chairs the Expo’s Organizing Committee.
Over 10,000 people from more than 50 countries are expected to take part in the Forum’s exhibition and business programme. The heads of federal executive authorities and Russian regions, senior executives from major Russian and international companies working in the resources industry, manufacturing, agriculture and other economic sectors will attend ECOTECH’17. The Forum business programme’s speakers and participants will include leading Russian and foreign scientists, technology leaders and innovators, experts and opinion shapers, members of international environmental organizations, and UN goodwill ambassadors.
Compared with 2016, the Forum’s business programme will be significantly expanded to include discussions of developing a “green” economy, natural disaster relief, and the role of states in managing environmental threats. The Forum’s attendees will summarize the Year of Ecology in Russia and discuss the effects of steps taken to protect Lake Baikal, carry out re-forestation, introduce a new waste management system, create new protected areas (PAs), and expand existing reserves.
Special attention will be devoted to issues concerning energy, industrial ecology, and global climate change. The key topics on Russia’s agenda at ECOTECH’17 will include discussions of the Environmental Security Strategy of the Russian Federation until 2025, corporate social and environmental responsibility, and stimulating innovations in environmental technologies.
The ECOTECH exhibition will feature companies that have either introduced or are currently developing the best available technologies to reduce polluting emissions and discharges, minimize waste, and reduce resource consumption.
Simultaneously with ECOTECH’17, Crocus EXPO Exhibition Centre will host the 5th All-Russian Environmental Protection Congress, which ECOTECH participants may attend. The Congress, which is held under the auspices of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Russia, will serve as a discussion platform for members of the environmental community. The Congress’ attendees will discuss ensuring the smart use of natural resources, monitoring environmental security, the role of ecology in Russia’s economy, environmental protection practices in Russia’s regions, and the introduction of environmental technologies. The discussions will help to develop proposals on improving environmental legislation and on new areas and formats of implementing Russia’s environmental policy.
